Chris Toppin Voice & Music Lessons
Form a band and record your song!
In 6 to 8 sessions, kids and adults at the beginner and intermediate levels learn how to play an instrument, form a band, write and rehearse a song, and record that song in a professional studio. Groups are formed according to age and ability. Instruments can be supplied when necessary. This is a great way to combine the challenge of learning to play, write, and record, with the fun of working together to create an original work.
TONE DEAF? Probably not, but if you weren't a natural at singing at a very young age your teachers or family members may have told you that you're tone deaf. Most of us refrain from singing publicly after that happens and therefore never develop our ear and vocalization naturally. Come to a free half-hour session to see if you are just undeveloped.
AUDITIONING? We can help you prepare. Learn to improve your technique, and gain confidence while working within any of the rock, pop, folk, country and R&B genres that interest and suit you, we will work together in a fun, relaxed atmosphere in our Roslindale home recording studio to determine and meet your vocal goals.
ADHD? ...or just not sure which instrument instruction suits you? come in and take our instrument rotation class. Switching between drums, guitar, then to voice
(or whatever your preferred instruments)
within one lesson is a great way to get started with a well-rounded music education and helps to determine which instrument you or your child is most passionate about and suited for. Students with ADHD find these classes very engaging and are able to focus more easily with this segmented structure.

" Chris Toppin is one of our main instructors and vocal coaches at Girls Rock Campaign Boston. After she volunteered as Vocal Instructor and Band Coach, so many of our Women and Girl campers wanted to keep learning from her that she had to start her own private instruction! She has perfect pitch and is an incredible singer. She will change the way you sing and can teach you any style you want to learn. She is warm and inspiring and I have learned so much just by working and recording with her. I would recommend her to anyone- amateur or professional!"
Hilken Mancini - Girls Rock Camp Boston Founder
"I have hired Chris for Buffalo Tom and solo records, and we collaborated on an original CD, writing and recording it together. I said this the other night: I truly believe there is no better singer, male or female, in Boston. She is technically brilliant, but more importantly, she understands how to use the voice as an instrument to convey a wide range of emotions, from tender country and quiet folk to joyous soul or raving rock 'n' roll."
Bill Janovitz - Buffalo Tom
"Chris Toppin is probably the best singer in Boston. Her vocal range and versatility are amazing, enriched by a wealth of experience in different styles of music. She is both a crooner and a rocker: sweet and low and heartbreaking, and then she brings down the roof. She's taught me so much about melody and harmony and control, and at the mic I think to myself: What would Chris do?
A beautiful voice with a heart to match."
